I've posted elsewhere, like on the Linksys support and read their docs, but it really hasn't helped me, so I'm hoping some genius here will have hte expertise on the issue.

In short, the router works great for all wired and wireless PCs. The keyword there being PC. It fails miserably for my PowerBook G4, 15" latest revision.

I am able to "connect" to it perfectly. I select my network from the Airport utility in the menu bar and I type in our security key, which is accepted. But is as if a firewall or something is blocking my computer as I simply cannot access any pages, even though it says I am connected.

This puzzles me a lot because yesterday, after some fiddling, I was able to get all computers (including the PowerBook) to work perfectly for several hours (I think installing the latest firmware helped). Then my bro accidentally unplugged the router and I had to reset it. I reconfigured it exactly the same, but now it just doesn't work on my mac.

The LELA recognizes the modem, router, and all "connected" computers except my Mac (even when I type in the passkey and it is accepted by Airport) and it says my WLAN is working/secured and network is OK.

I installed the latest Sept 14 firmware for the WRT54GS v6, which is the correct model.

Any help would be fabulous, thanks.

The latest firmwared is 1.50.9, dated 01 October 2006 (unless the firmware date and the release date are different.)

I have trouble on a regular basis with my WRT54G with the latest firmware too.

The difficulty with the Linksys brand with Airport Macs seems to be more than prevalent; it reminds me of a plague. Suffice to say, I'll never recommend Linksys anything if you use a Mac.

That's a little extreme, frdmfghtr. I've had nothing but success with Linksys products. I'd love to be able to post "this is what it takes to make every Linksys product work with every Mac," but that would imply perfect knowledge of every person's individual Mac, network, configuration, etc. Suffice to say that your problems are NOT representative of the entire population's experience.

In any case, Linksys is not the only brand out there, so if you don't care for them, go ahead and use another brand.

tintin220, The WRT54GS series is supposed to be more capable than the run of the mill WRT54G because the S has more ROM, RAM and supposedly a better/faster processor. With that said, your post leaves out a lot of data that would be crucial to troubleshooting your problem. Let's start out by asking what OS your PCs are running, what OS version your PowerBook is running, what "LELA" means (I'm stumped), and almost the most crucial question of all, what kind of wireless security are you running? Fill us in on those tidbits and I think we can help you work this out.

p.s.; I've been running a mixed Mac/PC network using Linksys products for years, and aside from the occasional need to restart one box or another, I've never had a problem.

You're right, my experience is in the minority, and really, there are more important things in life to worry about. I've done enough ranting about it, time to focus on other things.

It's all cool-your opinion is important. I'm glad you didn't get into the all-too-familiar "I had bad experiences with Product X so it must be crap and I'll tell everyone that I can bother that it's crap" mode. The reality is that some peole do have bad experiences, and others have good ones. I'll be the first to admit that my experience is atypically good.

Glad you're on the team.
