my macbook has a big problem connecting wireless to my Netgear DG834GT router, most of the time i cant even get a signal, even inches away from the router. My iMac and PC have no problems any where in the house..

there are other wireless networks that i see IF i see the Netgear. If i dont see 1 i dont see any.

one thing i have noticed is that if i connect or connect with a cable my Device Name for my MacBook is UNKNOWN but the network works perfect with the cable..

i have changed the name in Preferences / Sharing but nothing changes..

i have no firewall or security on the router or mac book, same with imac.

can anyone help with these issues, thanks.

It sounds very much like your AirPort card is not working correctly. If other computers can connect with the router, that means it's almost certain that the router is working fine.

Now for your second point-it could be that there's something wrong with your AirPort's "location" settings. The typical way to deal with this is to trash whatever location you have in use when you experience problems. If you only have the "Automatic" location shown, then create a new one and leave everything at its default setting. This is also true of a wired adapter's settings.

But first, I think you need to get your MacBook checked out professionally. I'll bet your AirPort card is faulty or has come disconnected or something similar.
