Hi all,
I'll try and explain as simply and concisely as possible.
At work we have a windows based network. Server is windows 2000 server, and desktops run windows xp. All PC based.
OK - I take my macbook in and connect to the wireless router for internet access. I have NOT configured the mac for network access - only to get the internet through the wireless router.
OK - we have a network printer/ copier installed on the network. I know the IP address and have installed it as a printer on the macbook. I have downloaded the latest mac driver for the macbook and installed. I've entered the IP address.
Printer: Sharp NX-2300N PPD.
OK when I send something to print the printer sounds like it is getting ready to print - it 'fires up' and makes noise - but nothing comes out.
Simple thoughts:
1) Do I have to register the mac on the network to use it? Can I set it so anyone can print to the printer?
2) Is it not mc/ PC compatible at the same time?
Any ideas are very welcome - if you need more info tell me. Many thanks.

Hi,
Many thanks for the reply. I've done all of that from fresh and I still ahve the same problem.
It's obviously seeing the printer as it tells me the job queue and the toner status, but when I go to print it seems to send the file but it doesn't print.
It comes up on my mac as a compelted file but does not print on the printer or show up in the 'completed jobs' screen.

One major issue that comes up time and time again with OS X is that network printing is not always as good as it should be. In particular, if the printer driver is not written specifically for networked printing, you're stuck. If it IS a network printing driver, you may run into oddness; my Brother laser printer's driver works fine over the network, but ALWAYS prints two blank pages after every print job, but if I connect to it with a USB cable it only prints the print job with NO blank pages... Very odd.
So your first step is to make sure you have a NETWORK print driver for the Sharp printer. If you don't it's very possible for you to see exactly what you're seeing. A second step is to make sure you're using the correct print spooler for that printer. If it's supposed to be used by mostly Windows computers, I'll bet it's print spool queue is named "LPT1" instead of a more logical, Mac-like name. This is something you can alter in your print settings without much fuss at all, so I'd give it a try right away.

Now I'm both at a loss and very puzzled. Sorry...
