Does anyone know of a good 802.11n(pre) access point? I'm not sure why it seems almost every device that's shipped is a router too. Sure, you can just use them in AP mode, but it just increases complexity, which can lead to failure.

Heh Apple has just launched an 802.11n AP Extreme, that should do the trick. As for the "but I don't want a router" argument I'd say get over it, it ain't gonna happen.

I'm more concerned with how I'm going to upgrade 5 macs to 802.11n which are a 20 inch G5 iMac, 20 inch Intel Core Duo iMac, G4 iBook, Intel Core Duo Macbook (black) and a 15 inch Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro. As far as I'm aware these all came with pre n cards installed. Is Apple going to release 802.11n cards for these machines?

There are a couple 802.11n access points available - 802.11n Access Points at Newegg.com

That said, I agree with Macadvo; adding the router hardware (which is minimal at best) isn't going to change the failure rate much. And there are a lot more options for 802.11n routers, some of them cheaper than the access points - 802.11n Routers at Newegg.com

USB2 or ethernet (or ExpressCard for the MBP) adapters. I doubt Apple will release 802.11n adapters for the Airport Express slot, and some of your machines don't have one anyway (Intel Macs).

I guess what I really meant is that typically AP devices only have been better APs than routers. I'm also looking for cheaper (why pay for what you don't need). Thanks for the thoughts.

I too would like to find how I can upgrade my Macbook Pro to wireless N. I have not seen any ExpressCard/34 products yet and wonder if they will ever. I hope apple or some one gets something out soon. Any Advice would be great.

EC/34 cards do now exist, and Belkin just announced one of them the other day. I would much prefer to not have something sticking outside my machine, like we would have with a card. That makes it difficult to slip it in a case, etc. As such, I'd love to get it inside the system. It was a totally new platform with the 1st MBP anyway.
