OK, so given that most people here seem to think that the LaCie ethernet disc isn't really a gigabit product. Are there any recommendations as to an ethernet drive that can actually reach decent network speeds?

I've had good expreiences with the Buffalo Linkstations, with the only downside in mine being afp (apple filesharing protocol). While it is supported, it's such an old version that I can't use long / strange filenames. On the other hand alot of companies don't support it at all.

From those reviews you will be able to limit the choice quite a bit, and from there it would be a good idea to look for some user reviews before making the final choice.
