I bought a 20 gig PS3 the other day, and i have a new Macbook Pro.
Is It possible to set something up so i can share the internet on my mac by plugging in an ethernet cable from my PS3 to my mac?

Welcome to the MacNN Forums! And yes it is possible to do this, but there are better ways to connect your PS3 than using your Mac. I'd get a router and connect both the MBP and the PS3 to it. Depending on how you have your network configured, you may only need a switch, but inexpensive routers (in the under $30 range) typically include a 4-port switch and stand alone switches are not always as inexpensive as consumer-level routers.
Tell us how your network is configured (modem, router, etc.) and we can advise you better. But my take is that using a router is the best way to share an Internet connection, and the only question now is what kind of router you need and how best to set it up.

Well i'll tell you my situations.
I currently am attending college, where i use a high speed cable ethernet connection. I dont use wireless here.
When i am at home (not at college) i have a wireless network setup. This is why i asked if it was possible to plug in an ethernet cable to my mac and use the internet my mac was getting for my PS3.
thanks alot!

Yes. You can.
Just connect both device with a CAT5 cable and enable 'Internet Sharing' on your Mac.

Kenneth is right-that is exactly how to make it work the way you want. However, I still think that it would be less hassle for you to buy a cheap wired router, at least for use at school. It's a matter of preference and how much configuring you want to do, really; I like the idea of just configuring an external box to handle all the work, but some people don't want to deal with another piece of hardware.
One note though: your PS3 will get, at most speeds just under the best network speeds you get with your laptop, which may be an issue when you use this setup at home with a wireless connection to the laptop. With a wired router connection (which you may be able to do with the PS3 at home, depending on the setup there), you'd get as much speed as the broadband connection can give you.

Since both your MBP and PS3 both offer Gigabit Ethernet, I would recommend a router with GB (1000BT) ports on it. Otherwise, any router will be fine, Linksys, Netgear, Belkin. Some college bookstores even carry routers.
