Hi, sorry if this is obvious, but networking is not my area of expertise.

As you can see in my signature, I have a PB and a G5, I have the G5 in the basement set up so I can do all of the photoworking, also because it cannot fit in my home office. I have a LaCie D2 FW800 drive hooked up to the G5 for backing up with aperture and photoshop. On my powerbook, I have my entire music library, and I "purchase" new songs every day, and I do not like having to reach behind the desk in the basement to get the drive or hook up the laptop down there while I backup for every few new songs, and I have to back them up almost everyday, I have lost music before and I purchased the drive to do some serious backing up. Is there a way to share the external HD so I can back up music from my Powerbook upstairs over a network?

Thanks a lot for your advice.

Are your PB and G5 networked right now (i.e. connected to a router)? If so, on the G5 go to System Preferences > Sharing and turn on Personal File Sharing. On the PB, the G5 should show up in the Finder under Network. Click "Connect" and enter your user name and password for the G5, you should then receive a prompt to select which drive you want to mount.

If it doesn't offer your external drive, you can use Sharepoints on the G5 to set it up as a mountable volume.
