Hey guys,

I'm considering getting a Verizon USB720 EV-DO USB dongle to use with my MacBook. Have any of you used one and, if so, what were your results? They just came out so I have some questions.

1. Columbus, Ohio isn't Revision A ready yet, will it still work with the existing EV-DO network and get fast speeds?

2. Is it, like most things on the Mac, plug and play? If not, easy to configure?

Thanks!
Chris

1. Yes, Rev A hardware will fall back to Rev 0 speeds when a Rev A network isn't available.

2. No, you'll need to install the VZAccess Manager that comes with the adapter.

The USB720 will fall back to Rev-0 speeds when used on those 1st generation EVDO networks, but based on speedtest results from users who report their findings on http://EVDOmaps.com, Rev-A devices like the Verizon USB720 will not go any faster than older Rev-0 devices, when run only on a Rev-0 network.

I picked one of these up today...haven't played with it much. I didn't need to use the install CD; Mac OS X has drivers built in already. I haven't done a speed test, but I was able to video chat for a bit with someone and web pages loaded fast, but not as fast as on my home wireless network.

Anyone run into a problem with the 5 GB download limit?
