Just got my Apple Extreme Base Station One WHOLE month before the stated date on the Apple Store. I can't wait to hook this thing up tonight and test out the connection and the NAS capabilities!

And here I was hoping it had gigabit ethernet, rather than being delivered in the month it was promised.

A lack of gigabit is such a dissapointment. Here I have this Mac Pro, with DUAL gigabit ethernet AND 802.11n and if I want faster than base 100 I'm required to use n? Coupled with the fact that I have a Wii that uses g and is always on the network, meaning everything drops to g speeds.... although, I wonder if I'll ever really use gigabit anyway.

Well, that's just lameauce.

Still a sweet router though.

I agree about the gigabit. It's a bit odd/insulting on some levels, especially since pretty much every machine they ship has gigabit. Still, I'll only be using it for wireless and NAS, which means I don't care about gigabit... especially since my DSL is only like 6mbit down.

That said, Apple underpromised and overdelivered for me. Didn't get out in the initial shipment, got notified it'd be going out by the 14th, and now they've shipped today! Looking forward to putting it through its paces.

How is it insulting when the vast majority of Apple's wireless router competition has only 10/100Base T? Apple has only just now caught up with everyone else by adding a wired switch to their wireless router...

I've got a perfectly good D-Link 5 port gigabit ethernet switch, which was like $50, that does a better job than the switch in any other brands' combo router-wireless-hub. And all 5 ports are full, so I'm contemplating upgrading to an 8-port model.

I'd rather the Apple device cost less and let me use my own switch than make me pay for a switch I'd never use.
