Can I make it into an access point? or i could bring it to my office . . . can I connect it straight to the ethernet cable coming from the company router, so I can have wireless in my cube?

I'd ask your network security guys first; most workplaces prohibit personal wifi, since it's a huge security risk.

Agree 100%. I work in a very liberal IT department - we let people do whatever they want with their computers for the most part. But I would flip out if I found a personal wireless node that somebody had installed themself.

Do not connect it to the production network. You are inviting people to in. Plus you will likely have issues with RADIUS if you don't set it up correctly.

Have you considered using it to setup a dual band network? This will keep your n network working at n speeds and your g at g by not letting g cards connect to the n network. It is easy. Set-up your new n router to only broadcast 5GHz. Ethernet you n and g routers together. Now they are all on the same network and working at top speed.

Yes, you can make it an access point (you simply uncheck the "share a single IP address" box in the Admin Utility and it's no longer a router, but only an access point.

And as has been stated above, ASK before you even bring it to work. Better safe and employed than the other way around.

Received my "N" extreme today, and did exactly that...set up the "OLD" extreme to "G" only. Ran a few tests before and after, plugged and wireless...on average i'm getting about a 13% increase in speed (5100kbps for "N" vs 4400kbps "G").

So when you link the two together, do you connect the old AEBS to the new AEBS via ethernet and have it use a different network name or the same network name is okay? ie HomeN vs HomeG so that N computers would select the HomeN network and others would select the HomeG network?

This link will help you in setting up a "N" and "G" network. It's recommended that you give them different names.

Thanks for the link to the manual. I read all about how to set it up and it does show that you give the networks different names... I posted this in another thread but I thought maybe someone can help with it here...

If you are using a dual band network, can computers connected to the OLD AEBS (which is connected via ethernet to the NEW AEBS) have access to the printers and HD's??

MikeD, asking the same question in different threads in the same forum within minutes of each other is poor form. Check the other thread.

Yes, it prints fine from either direction. My MBP is "N" only my wifes MB and iMac are "G" only. I have a HP 2600 Color Laser connected via airport express to the "G" only and HP 2300 BW Laser connected to old AE.

Yes, just make sure you have only one DHCP server, setting up the APBS's as gateways. You only want one network, not some crazy confused subnet.

For example: I have a DSL modem and router in one deal, from it I run an ethernet cable into the back of AEBS-n WAN port. The AEBS-n is set as a gateway and only to 5GHz band channels, and is my USB 2.0 NAS. From the AEBS-n I run an ethernet cable into the WAN port on my AEBS-g. The AEBS-g is also set as a gateway and the host for a WDS bridge. The WDS bridge links my Airport Express, which is my print server. With this setup all my computers see each other, the printer and the NAS.

When I set up this network is my SSID for both basestations the same? It's just the actual name of the basestation that is different right? For example. AirportFlat and AirportDome

Okay I'm having issues with the WDS Stuff. Is the N station the main basestation for WDS and the old G the relay or remote?
