Hello,
I am trying to help my brother troubleshoot an issue. He has a MacBook Core Duo. He ran software update and ever since he did that he can no longer connect to his wireless Router (a DLink 624). No one else in his house has problems connecting to the network, but all others are on PC's.
He recently came to visit me too watch the Superbowl (I live 600 miles away) and brought his computer to have me look at it. He had no problems logging on to my wireless network at home and at my office (1 Netgear and one LinkSys). So I determined that the issue was not his network card.
He returned home, and still could not connect to his network. His network is unsecure, and is broadcasting its SSID, yet his macbook never sees the network. He has tried to connect by typing in the SSID, and this did nothing.
He then thought to reset the router. He still could not pick up the network even when leaving it to it's default name.
He then theorized that maybe he cannot see or connect to unsecure networks. He is going to wait for my cousin to come home and have him secure the network (my brother is not a tech person, and the router belongs to my cousin). My question is has anyone seen such behavior before? My brother says all these connection issues happened after he last updated his computer (of course he has no idea what updates he installed, and I don't know how to uninstall them, or if it can even be done without an internet connection).
If anyone has clues as to what might be going on, please offer me advice.
to recap - his macbook had no problems connecting to my 2 routers, but mine were secure (but this makes a hardware issue really unlikely in my opinion). He can also connect to his friends network (also secure - I'm uncertain as to the router make/model of his friends router). He lost the ability to connect to my cousin's router (whom he lives with) after running a software update. That router is a D-Link 624 and is running wide open.
Peace,
O
B unce!
