Newbie Alert

I have the new airport Extreme and want to send iTunes to my stereo. Is buying the "AirPort Express Base Station with AirTunes" the logical solution? I do not see any 3rd party products that can do this for me - or an add on for the AirPort Extreme.

thank you!

Correct, the Airport Express is the only wireless device that will support Airtunes.

Another option is to use an XBox 360 + Connect360. That is what I use. I have a wireless router and wireless on my 360. Running Connect360 the XBox see's my G5 as a Media Center computer. I'm able to browse around my entire iTunes Library and Playlists and play music.

The only thing the Connect360 solution does not cover is iTMS purchased music. You won't be able to stream any DRM'd music.

There are some other options that follow the same procedure as I described for my XBox, such as the Roku.

Thank you very much SWFan. Appreciated. I have an Intel Mac Mini that I am not doing much with so I might try to stick that next to my system and get them working together. The reviews on AirPort Express Base Station with AirTunes are not pretty. Works great for 1 year then dies. Mind you ... 1 year is techland .... eons!

thanks again

I have had my Airport Express for two nearly years now and have not had any issues with it. I use it to stream music and to extend my Linksys WRT54GS wireless network so that I get a signal in all corners of my property. Perhaps I am the exception to the rule...

Between various family members, we must own 5 Airport Expresses, two of which were bought when they were first released in 2004. All are still working great.

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output

I must add my tuppence worth....Had an Airport Express since the day they were released, and have never had a single problem with it. It gets heavy usage, streaming music almost constantly throughout my house during waking hours. I have installed dozens of these for clients, and none have (yet) come back to me to report any problems. In short, I am most definitely not familiar with the scenario pcryan5 describes.

thanks to all - I must say the experience of this forum with Airport Express / Air Tunes is quite different than those who post in the Apple Store!
