Hello,

I have a MacBook (all software updated). I live with 4 other people in a big flat. Our 4 mbit internet-connection is split to each of our rooms by some kind of router (not wireless) in our loft. In my room I have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router connected, so I can use the Airport in my Mac.

About a week ago my internet-connection began to work really slow. Even when I downloaded something from Versiontracker.com or Apple.com the speed would only reach 20-30 kb/sek (normal is 400-450 kb/sec.) First I thought some of my room mates were downloading some big stuff, but as the problem carried on for days, I began suspicious.

Yesterday I tried to unplug my wireless router and put my net cable directly in my Mac, and suddenly everything was back to normal! I then tried to reset the wireless router, but it did not help - every time I connect to the router my internet speed is down to year 2000-level.

I tried to take the router to the shop, but they said that it was my computer that were the problem.

Does anyone have some kind of solution to this problem? I don't know so much about internet-setup, so a dummie-guide would be nice ;-)

Thanks in advance!

Mathias

Wrong forum-all network-related issues go in the Networking forum. I'll move this thread there.

Without knowing everything about your ENTIRE network, from where the Internet connection enters the house/building to where it gets into your D-Link, nobody can say anything helpful. It could easily be that the "some kind of router" in the loft is the culprit, but without knowing what hardware it is (or even what kind of Internet connection you have), it's really impossible to say.
