As you can tell, I am new to Apple/Mac; and I need some assistance.
For the most part, I got most of my peripherals installed and/or setup.

However, I am having trouble configuring my MacPro to print to a Linksys Wireless Print Server. Any advice, help or direction is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Those Linksys print servers are dumb, so you have to specify everything. It took me some searching before I got mine to work with my Macs. It's not like a Belkin or an HP where you just put in the IP and it'll fill it in for you.

First, make sure you can ping the print server and actually see it.

Next, to add the printer:
  • Open up the Printer Setup Utility in your Utilities folder.
  • Click the Add button.
  • Click the IP Printer button. This may take a few seconds to load.
  • Make sure the protocol is set to "Line Printer Daemon - LPD." Even if it's an HP, it's because you're printing through the Linksys.
  • Type in the IP of the print server.
  • Put "lp" in the Queue name. I don't think it matters what you call it, but you have to have something for a queue name.
  • Select the printer driver for the printer. If it's not in the list, download the CUPS drivers for it.
  • Save your printer and try printing to it.

The printer won't show up as a printer to select in a list. You have to add the printer manually as stated above.

The above should work for any printer connected through the Linksys. The Linksys printer interprets the data and passes it onto the printer. So regardless of the brand printer, always use Line Printer Daemon for the protocol.

I would recommend an HP JetDirect USB print server instead of the Linksys if you have an actual HP printer. It does a much better job than the Linksys, although it only works with an HP brand printer.

Try the "Other" section and see if it shows up there.
