I am purchasing the new Airport Base Station and considering getting a USB Hard Drive for it. As well, I know there are many Ethernet based network Hard Drives coming out on the market now.
Which is better to purchase? Since the Airport Base Station only has 100Mbps Ethernet and not Gigabit it seems that would be slower throughout my network than USB unless I upgrade to Gigabit in the future. As well, since I'm getting AppleTV if I'm able to stream content from the base station hard drive that would be a big plus.

Since you're already buying the new Airport Extreme base station, attaching a USB2 disk to it is the cheaper way to go. The performance isn't great, but it's more than enough to stream video/audio to your Macs and AppleTV.

If you're going to replace the Airport Extreme base station with another brand that supports gigabit in the near future, then an enclosure with gigabit ethernet would be a good idea, however they're pretty pricey.
