I have an intel imac and macbook networked with an airport extreme. Both can acces the web via the airport but neither device can see each other. When browsing the network all I can see is an alias for library and for servers, if I click the alias I get 'the alais xxxx cannot be opened, because the original item cannot be found' and if I try to delete the alais it tells me I don't have permission/authority. Any ideas....?

turn file sharing on on both, and find the hostnames. (look in sharing preferences)

then goto finder -> go -> connect to server -> and type in (othercomputershostname).local
