I was wondering if it is possible to change the coding to allow the UK spec Airport extremes to opera at the faster 5X rate of our US counterparts..??

Sort of on the same tack: If I go to the US (as I will be later this month) and buy a new US Airport Extreme, can I use it here in the UK and take advantage of the 5x faster speeds instead of the 2.5x faster speed the UK version provides?

You CAN use either in the other place. But the UK unit supports three channels that are not "legal" for the US (and the US unit lacks those three channels). I'm not sure if you could use the appropriate locale's AirPort update to change the channel issue.

I don't know how the speed thing is different in the UK from the US...

You can just set the router location to Ireland (or wherever), then access the dual channel, N only setting, (I bought mine here in the UK).

I do this, although I am in England - I expect to be arrested any minute!

I have a slightly different problem. I have a US MacBook Pro and a Middle East version Airport Extreme. I just downloaded the new firmware and I haven't tried yet detecting the airport extereme but it it was not working or even detected until 5 minutes ago
