Hi,
I have an iMac G5 and an Extreme Base Station (not the new one, it is about one year old). I had my DSL modem and printer hooked up to it and it was working fine. My wireless internet was working fine until recently when additional networks in my neighborhood seemed to start causing problems and slowing down my surfing speed.

Today I moved my modem downstairs next to my iMac and plugged the ethernet cable directly into the back of my iMac. I left the printer hooked up to the Extreme Base Station. The internet works fine, and I can still print using the Extreme Base Station, but the problem is that if I have the Airport turned on, my internet does not connect. Once I turn off the Airport, the internet works great. Why can't my internet work while it is plugged directly into my iMac while the Airport is on? I tried to mess with some configurations, but I could not get the internet to work while the Airport is turned on. Basically I just want to use the Extreme Base Station for wireless printing, and have the DSL modem hooked directly into my iMac, without having to turn the Airport on and off evertime I start to use the web. Can this be done?

Why not just change the channel your AirPort Extreme is set on? Almost all routers and access points come from the factory set to channels 6 or 7, so choosing a different channel, say 4 or 9, should let you sidestep the interference without any real hassle. Try this with your original setup and I'll ponder doing what you say you want... I think you will be pleasantly surprised that a different channel (you may need to try more than one different channel) fixes the interference problem you encountered.
