Seems like it's a problem on the Win2k3 side, but I'm not getting any answers from that crowd yet, so
hoping someone here can help.
On a Mac 10.4.9,
smb://ip.address/sharename fails with a "The Finder cannot complete the operation...could not be read or written (Error code -36)". The console shows: mount_smbfs: negotiate phase failed: syserr = Operation timed out.
The Mac CAN connect to the share using just the IP address (Go > Connect to server... > ip.address). It's prompted for username and password and it's given the drive.
The Win2k3Serv has file Services for Macintosh installed, and Macintosh shares created using Computer Management > System Tools > Shared Folders. Also, in Domain Controller Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options, I have followed the Default Controller Security Policy settings mentioned
here.
Any suggestions?
