I have spent days trying to connect my Airport Airtunes Express with the new Airport n. Nothing.

My printers, 1 USB, 1 HP 2600n ethernet are connected to the Express. My internet connection is with the Airport n.

No matter what I try, I can't print.

The express was printing fine with my round Airport g via WDS. I bought the new Airport n to replace the g. But no matter how I try, WDS, extend, remote, relay I can't see printers.

I can't even seem to get the Express to connect to the n. The old g Airport did all this automatically pretty much.

Does the Express work with the Airport n? I got a feeling it doesn't.

My Express is working just fine and it's attached to a draft-n Extreme as well. I get the impression yours might not be working because you're trying it with WDS. How about turning all WDS stuff of, that is: Extreme set to be main base station with 'Create a wireless network', uncheck 'Allow this network to be extended', Express set to connect to wireless network (give network name and type/password if necessary).

The idea is to have the Express connect to the wireless network as any other wireless client. It can then act as an AirTunes station. For this kind of stuff you don't need WDS. The Express will work just fine with the Extreme as long as the Extreme isn't set to use the 5GHz band exclusively.

Thanks. I tried that. The Express does to get an ip from the N Airport. And I can see the USB printer. But for some reason the HP 2600n doesn't get an ip assigned to it. So I can't see or print to this printer.

I assume the with the 2600n connected via ethernet in the Express, the Express should the query the Airport n and the Airport N should send an ip through the Express over to the printer? That is not happening.

I've restarted the HP 2600n too. No ip ever gets to it.

But if I use the USB port on the 2600N, then I see it fine. But like I said I have two printers. One is USB only.

The Printer doesn't get an IP. You detect it through Bonjour.

But only the USB attached printer shows up as Bonjour. The HP 2600n has always been plugged in via ethernet. With the g Airport I could print to either. With this N Airport, only one printer as long as it's plugged into the Express USB port.

If I plug my computer into the Express ethernet port, I can't get only either. The Express is in Bridge mode so I assume that's why it doesn't pass along ip addresses from the Airport N.

Very surprising Apple designed this Airport N to not be totally compatable with the older Airport hardware.

I think it has to do more with the Express than the Extreme. I just tried to recreate your scenario in my house (I've got two expresses and an extreme-n). I can't get the Express to join wirelessly AND enable the ethernet jack. Using the older Airport Admin software, it says "When the base station joins a wireless network, the Ethernet port is always disabled."

It seems like this setup should work (I remember thinking the Express could act like a wireless bridge), but honestly I never had it set up that way, so I never tested it. (Although, maybe it would work that way using WDS.)

I'm grasping for straws here, but maybe this article might be of some help.
