Not sure if this is the right forum?

I have a site I built and host on .Mac with iweb. It is a basic brochure site for my business. Somewhere down the line I will have it done professionally.

I have just bought a hosting service - I want to host the site on another server not .Mac, mainly becaue I want the use of specific email addresses to the domain name. Which incidentally is www.thirstlimited.com. I have the domain name hosted with a service that I point at my .mac page so if you do look at the site it is shown as the domain name above. However that doesn't allow me the IMAP emails I want.

ANYWAYS my problem is this. I have absolutely no idea how to use a ftp client. ( well I do know that I should save the site as a file ad then upload that and the index....not entirely sure what that means in practice I shall be trying tomorrow.)

And no idea how to use an ftp client to get my files where I want them which is hosted with the new hosting service. Will I have to make alterations in iweb save a file and upload everytime I alter some text for example?

Currently have downloaded cyberduck and Transmit3but I really have no idea what to do with them!!

Any tips/answers advice will be greatly appreciated.

An FTP client should work a lot like Finder for you. You move files from one folder (on your computer) to another (on your host) pretty much the same way.

CyberDuck's help is really good; it points out the little quirks CD has and it helped me out a lot.

Thank you ghporter that is reassuring and I'll be seeing if I can upload later today.

There is one thing though. I have 3 sites in iweb. When I save to a fiolder they all get saved but I only need one of them, they save as separate folders but there is only one index file - will that cause a problem when I up load the site
I want, do I have to upload the index too, if so why and will it index the other 2 sites?

I know nothing about iWeb. It would be best to ask about it in the Applications forum, where there are no doubt lots of people who DO something about it.

Don't understand the most recent questions here, but I will strongly suggest that you do not use FTP for the security reasons discussed within these forums several times (you can find out more by doing a forum search if you are interested). In short, when you authenticate to an FTP server, your password is being sent in the clear.

index.html (or index.htm, index.php, etc. depending on how the webserver is configured) is the file the webserver looks for in a directory if no other file is specified. In other words, this file is your homepage for each directory level.

The security issue can be addressed down the line - right now the priority is to host the pages.

I just uploaded my site iweb folder via cyber dock but it is not appearing on the my sites url.

Why is that. Can anyone either help directly or point me in the direction of the appropriate help
