I have the new airport extreme and after the 7.1 firmware update it seems that my internet has slowed down a little. Does anyone else have this problem, or heard of this?

Thanks, David

Check it out. Test your speed at Speedtest.net. Compare what you get to what your broadband connection is supposed to give you. I try to do this about once a month to monitor my line quality, and so I know if something is going weird. My "up to 6Mbps download" DSL connection consistently clocks at approximately 5Mbps, so I'm generally happy.

I ran the test. im supposed to have a 6 Mbps connection. The test said my download speed was 8812 kb/s and upload was 414 kb/s. The latency was 18ms and the distance was 200mi from the server. Im not sure if this is good/bad or how it compares. Thanks.

Run those tests while your connected through AP and compare them to the results you get when you connect your Mac to the broadband modem through Ethernet directly. 8.8 Mb/s down and 400 kb/s up sound fine for a 6 Mbps plan though.

Fine? It's AWESOME! You're getting about 35% BETTER download speed than your plan supposedly provides. Your upload ain't shabby either, though it could be better. Latency is not bad at 18ms. Try some other servers farther away to see how much variation you get. I'm in Central Texas, and I regularly check my speed to San Fransicso and Boston servers to have an idea how the distance (and intervening Internet) affects my speed.
