I recently learned that my university's bandwidth shaper will allow someone to make up to 100 http connections simultaneously. If you go over 100, it will drop all your connections and wait for them to time-out before letting you go again.

Is there any simple way on the Mac to monitor the current number of total http connections I am making??

Are you talking about incoming or outgoing connections? If incoming, Apache's mod_status module is designed for this purpose.
