I just took delivery of a new 20" iMac and when I set it up I copied over all my apps, pref and files from my 12" powerbook G4 using the option presented to me when I first turned on the new iMac. It copied over everything fine without any problems. However I now have a strange issue and I am usure what to do about it. For some reason the iMac keeps on connecting to a computer to computer network with the same name as my Airport express wireless network. I reset my Airport express and given it en entirely different name with a different level of security but whenever I start up or switch users it always reverts back to a computer to computer network that essentially does'nt exist rather than the real one. Its driving me mad I have told it to only connect to the correct network and given it all the correct detail but it still hap[pend if anyonew has any ideas that would be great otherwise I gues I'm gonna do a clean install.

Have you updated the OS all the way? There have been some issues with Intel Macs (iMacs in particular) and connecting to airport networks. You should try a PRAM reset once your OS is up to date.

Did you remove that network in the system preferences?
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > "By Default Join: Preferred networks"
You'll see the different wireless networks you've connected to. Highlight all the ones you don't want and click the minus button below.

Yes I tried bothj of the suggested tips above but in the end I decided to wipe the machine and just transfer over my home folder and reinstall all my required apps. According to some posts on Apples support forums you sometimes get this issue when you copy over your existing apps and settings from an older G4 or G5 mac to an intel based Mac and the best way round it is the one described above. thanks anyway

It's NEVER a good idea to have two different networks with the same name. NEVER.
How did you connect to the old computer when you copied your old stuff? It may make a difference in how Migration Assistant does its thing...
Oh, and this really belongs in the Networking forum, so I'm going to move it there.

Well, you can also use the migration assistant and not transfer over the network preferences... or delete those preferences. Sometimes, there are stronger signals though, and your computer may ask to join before it sees your network. I hate it when that happens, annoying.
