I have a mixed LAN (wifi, wired ethernet, homeplug) with a variety of TCP/IP devices, Quicksilver G4 running OS 10.4.9 (802.11b wifi), Gateway Athlon64 X2 running WinXP (wired 100MB ethernet), Compaq Athlon64 notebook running WinXP (802.11b wifi), two SUSE Linux machines (Homeplug), HP Laserjet 6MP connected via external JetDirect TCP/IP print server, HP Deskjet 7210 AiO printer with ethernet.
This has all worked fine until the last few months. Back in February, I upgraded the Quicksilver G4 to Tiger... I am not really sure that was the precipitating event but roughly since then we have been having more and more problems getting the G4 to print to the networked printers. It prints to a directly connected USB printer with no problems.
We shut all the computers and printers down yesterday because a big line of thunderstorms was coming through. And after that, the G4 wouldn't print to any of the networked printers at all.
And when I tried diagnosing things I found the following:
- Both WinXP machines print to the networked printers fine (one WinXP is wired ethernet, and the other is 802.11b wifi).
- On the G4 (using wifi), I can ping the router (192.168.1.1) but I cannot ping any other device on the LAN (neither the networked printers, nor any of the other LAN computers).
- On the G4 (using wifi), I can ping Internet nodes without problem.
- On the G4 (using wifi), I have no problem connecting to Internet websites.
- On the WinXP notebook (using wifi), I can ping all the LAN devices.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on? Basically, my 802.11b wifi-connected G4 can ping the router and any node on the internet but cannot "see" anything else on the local LAN.
But my WinXP notebook using 802.11b wifi can see all the devices on the LAN.
My router is a Linksys BEFW11S4 4 port 802.11b. My suspicion is that the problem is on the G4 itself since everything else (both WinXP and Linux machines) seem to work fine.
If anyone has any suggestions as to the source of the problem and a fix, it would be greatly appreciated.
