First off, what are you trying to FTP? Website files? I am not familiar with Transmit, but would suggest you download Cyberduck which is a simple Mac FTP client. http://www.cyberduck.ch It will give you the parameters for what it wants you to enter in... ftp.ipaddress or ftp://ipaddress. Once you connect, you simply find the files on your local system and move them over to the remote side.

You also want to make sure the username and password are correct and if you can't connect, make sure you don't have a firewall interfering.

You can also use Firefox browser by simply downloading their FTP Plugin from their site https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/684

Then you type ftp://ipaddress in the address bar on your browser and it will prompt you for your ftp username and password. It will then open up your ftp site and you move your files over to the open window.

Server connection errors are generally caused by not being able to connect through your local isp server, something may be not right with the hosting server or you have a firewall interfering.

It appears that you are having an issue with a firewall and/or your router. If you are entering your FTP information try using the Passive mode in your FTP client, which may solve your problem. If not, then you need to check with your local provider or router support to see why it is being blocked.

You may want to google the main error: "YOU'RE BEHIND A NAT ROUTER 501- Configure the firewall settings of your FTP client" and you will probably find a lot of people who have had the same issue and fixes for the problem. You may just want to try the client that is linked on the last line of the error message.

Ok, I'm still steady at this. I am able to connect to this server using Flashfxp via windows through Parallels. Why am I able to connect through windows but not my MBP?

He is using Passive mode, that's what this means:

500 You need to use a client supporting PRET (PRE Transfer) to use PASV
Are you behind a firewall blocking any outgoing connections?

Do you really have to use FTP? You really shouldn't be anyway, it's not a secure protocol.

Well, I turned my firewall off and this is what I got:

http://tinyurl.com/yw34t5

It's interesting why I can connect on windows side and not Mac...

P.S. Sorry, its SSL/TLS (thats what the client needs to be able to connect)

Being that Flashfxp worked on windows, is there a Mac client like it?

The OS X software firewall by default does not prohibit outgoing connections, I was thinking more along the lines of a firewall elsewhere.

However, I'm pretty certain I know what your problem is.

Your screenshot shows that you are connecting to the server via ftps (which is FTP + SSL). Does this FTP server support FTP+SSL? This is pretty rare, as SFTP is the more popular standard.

Yeah, Ive tried the SFTP using Transmit, Yummy, Fetch and Cyberduck and still no connection. Im pretty certain I do not have any 3rd party software firewall blocking.

Connecting to SFTP brings the error: "Permission Denied"

The problem isn't MacOS X' firewall, it's your router's port forwarding. As long as you don't fix that, you can use whatever client you'd like, it won't work.

You can't just arbitrarily pick a connection protocol, you need to know what the server you are connecting to supports, and choose from this list.

That only applies to incoming connections, he is making outgoing connections, no?

You need a distributed FTP capable client. Did you even read anything at DrFTPd.org?

Clients with PRET support - DrFTPD

Cyberduck should work too if you select the FTP-SSL protocol option, if this is really what this server uses.
