Hey, all.

I have an Core2Duo Intel iMac (Late 2006) w/ 2GB RAM, QuickTime Pro 7.1.6, and Mac OS X 10.4.10 and a broadband connection. I have the latest Filp4Mac plugin. I've also run this Tweak Test at Broadband Reports and everything looks peachy.

But ... video playback within a window of my web browsers (Camino, Safari, et al.) still SUCKS and is choppy and slow. What else can I do?

Is all of your video through Quicktime? How do you have that configured? There are a ton of QT preferences that could help, including increasing your download cache (in the Browser tab) and adjusting either/both streaming speed and/or instant on delay in the streaming tab.

If by that you mean that my browsers are using the QT plugin, then yes. Do the QT Player application prefs impact that?

Apparently-especially since there's a whole category of QT prefs labeled "Browser".

You mentioned Camino and Safari "et al." What others have you tried-i.e. Firefox, etc.?

There could also be other stuff going on with your connection. TweakTest is good, but it can't test for every potential issue. It would be good if you had another computer you could connect the same way so you could compare performance... Even an old PC that's good for browsing would be useful.

Are you playing Quicktime/Windows Media files, or Flash video? Flash performance is terrible on Macs.

Windows Media and MPEGs, mostly.

As they say around here -- that'd do it!

I'll try 'em all and post here again.

Ain't no such thing as a PC that's good for anything, 'cept propping doors open. Oh, and running Linux. Would WinXP via Boot Camp or Parallels count?
