Hi. I need help ASAP. I just entered a lease on a "commercial grade" Kyocera copier/ postcript printer. I am trying to use it as a printer from my beige G3 with system 9.0. I had to get Laserwriter 8.6 and install it because the the Kyocera doesn't have a fully self contained driver and uses the Laser Writer icon in the chooser.

The problem is the two machines just aren't communicating. the computer doesn't "see" the printer. also, when I run the Kyocera setup assistant, it crashes the G3. HELP!

Kyocera does have what you call `self-contained drivers', at least for OS X computers. Since essentially all Kyocera printers are Postscript printers, you should be able to print via PPD. Even if you don't have OS X, all you need to do is extract the correct PPD file and go on from there.

However, it sounds as if the problem here is networking, not really a strong point of OS 9.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. It turned out that the ethernet port on the Kyocera was bad. thats why my G3 didn't recognize it. I had to use ethernet/appletalk because with OS 9 you have to use the laserwriter icon in the chooser. When I clicked that, the computer said I had to have appletalk active.

Anyway, they brought a new Kyocera today and it works great. Alls well

Thanks again

Don
