I'm thinking about buying an airport express to use as a router. Does anyone think they will make an updated Airport Express anytime soon. Perhaps one with the wireless n standard?

I haven't read anything on the rumor sites about a new Airport Express.

Have you considered an Airport Extreme or another manufacturer's n-based routers? Those are better options for router work, as they feature wired ports and higher throughput than 802.11 b/g (assuming your computer is n-ready) to support a network that may come to support more devices.

I'm going to say that it's not likely they'll come out with any new network hardware any time soon. The new AirPort Extreme Base Station was a surprise because it wasn't announced in conjunction with any STANDARD being finalized-it's running an implementation of a draft standard. But it makes sense that they released it when they did, because so many other manufacturers were putting out tons of "draft N" products. However, there are no other standards or even drafts in work and ready to be published at the moment, and it's not likely anything will come out before the middle of next year (supposedly the final N standard "might" be out by late spring '08). But it's also likely that the current Extreme will be upgradable to match any final N standard, so that's not an issue.

One more thing-please note that there's a whole forum JUST for network stuff, even rumors and supposition. It even says that in the description of the Consumer Hardware & Components forum. Please make sure you post in the most appropriate forum next time, ok? I'll move this thread to where it belongs.
