Hi all, I am getting a new laptop soon and currently use TM for my desktop and my wifes laptop (wirelessly obviously). This configuration is working fine and is supported (unlike "airdisk"). When I get my new laptop I will relegate my old desktop to serving up my ps3/xbox360/tivo/squeezebox (oy!) and plan to keep it also as a file server for TimeMachine.

I also plan to get an airport extreme base station, but I'm wondering if there would be any advantage to waiting and getting a TimeCapsule? I can't think of any reason to use TC over my old desktop (since it will be running most of the time anyway). And the advantage to using the mac is that I can easily replace/upgrade my TIme Machine HD space.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Depends on what connection your desktop has to your wireless router since the new Time Capsule would support up to 'n' speeds.

I think that TC is really targeted towards laptop users who don't necessarily want a tethered external drive or don't want to have a desktop running for that purpose; otherwise, it's quite easy to have Time Machine mount the shared folder on your desktop when it's time to run a backup since this will happen automatically.

yeah, the desktop will be wired to my existing GB router (the router that the AEBS will be wired to, to get N to my laptops). This is what I thought, there is no reason to choose a TC if I will have a basically always running file server machine.
thanks.
