Hello there. I'm about to receive my new Airport Extreme. I have a USB-harddrive I'm going to connect to the USB-port. I'm sure the internal network and sharing of the harddrive will be no problem. My question is: Is it possible to access this disc from the outside of my local network? For example when I'm at work or visiting a friend, I would like to be able to access the drive. Is this possible? I'm sorry if this question has already been posted before..
Hope you guys can help.
Kind regards,
Claus from Denmark, Europe.

Hello again. Is there really no one with any thoughts on this? Have I posted this in a wrong section? I'm completely new to macnn.. If this is incorrectly placed, who do I contact to move it?
Regards, Claus from Denmark.

I think the Networking forum is the right place for this issue. I have no clue, but I think someone else will have plenty of them.

If your router supports port forwarding, you should be able to configure it to direct port 548 (does AirDisk use the standard AFP port?) to the IP address of your base station (you will need to set it to a static IP).

You will then need to know the public IP address of your router at home. If this is not static, you may want to look at a service like DynDNS.org

The just have the remote user select 'Connect to server...' and enter:

afp://yourhost.dyndns.org
