I have a NAS storage unit I've been using in the past connected directly to my router. Now that I have a Mac Pro with a 2nd Ethernet port I thought I'd take advantage of this by connecting the NAS directly to the 2nd Ethernet port. The problem is that when I do The Mac fails to see the NAS, or at least I don't know its IP so I can't connect manually. I tried turning on internet sharing, switching the configuration from DHCP, BootP, etc and nothing seems to work. I know I'm probably missing something simple, but I can't figure it out. Any suggestions?

BTW, I thought about doing it manually, but if I log into the NAS when its connected to the router and try changing the settings to something that should work on the 2nd ethernet port it immediately disconnects from the router so I can't finish the configuration...

Its a SmartStor N4300 NAS running embeded linux if that makes any difference.

Well, I figured it out, however the procedure seemed kind of risky. I had to change all the parameters at once on the NAS and then apply the settings. Once I did this I could not connect to the NAS until I had all the settings matched up on the computer. Everything worked properly, however If I typed the subnet mask or router IP incorrectly and hit apply I don't know how I every would have connected to it again. I couldn't find anyway to "reset" the NAS without removing the drives which would cause a loss of all data.
