hey everyone
i have a wireless network at my house.
the wireless router is in my room.
anyways...i have a wireless pc (windows xp).
once in a while when i start it up, it won't recognize the router.
instead of having to restart the router all the time, i'd just right-click on the network connections icon that pops up at the bottom-right of the screen and click REPAIR.
then...it connects perfectly to it.
so here's my problem.
i have a MacBook.
MOST of the time, when i boot it up, it doesn't find my router.
sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't...but it gets annoying.
so my question is, for MACs, is there a way to do to what i've been doing on my PC (right-clicking the icon on the toolbar and clickin on REPAIR)?
the only way i know how to fix it is to keep on restarting the router...but that's just ridiculous =(
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

You can turn AirPort off and on in the AirPort menu item in the menubar.
But that's just as ridiculous as restarting the router. Something isn't right with your setup.

it only works after i restart my router.
THEN it'll automatically connect to it.

More than likely, there's something wrong with your router or a setting on the router. What router are you using?

not exactly sure about the model seeing that i'm at work,
but...it came free from verizon.
it's wireless and has 4 ethernet inputs as well.
so i'd have to change the router settings?
i mean...if it were the setting on the router, why does it let me connect to it SOMETIMES?
if it were the router, wouldn't it never let me in at all?
=\

Who knows? It could time out if no clients are connected to it, at which point you have to manually connect to it from the machine(s) on the network. Maybe you have broadcasting of the network turned off and it needs to be turned on.

Maybe there is something nearby that's transmitting on a nearby frequency and interfering. Lots of stuff could get in your way, from an old, leaky microwave oven to a 2.4GHz baby monitor. The first step is to see what networks your AirPort card sees-click on the AirPort gizmo in the menubar and let it scan then see what networks it lists. Any other wireless networks around you could be on the same channel and thus mask or interfere with your network, so you should change the channel your router is set to (almost guaranteed to be either channel 6 or 7). Go for either end of the range, like channel 2 or 10, and then check again.
Also note that when XP "repairs" a network connection, it uninstalls the driver for the adapter and then starts installing it all over. Turning off your AirPort card and then turning it on again doesn't do that, so there could be something that your Mac's card is missing.
