I have a powerbook G4 that recently had trouble restarting after a software update. I was able to finally log into my laptop after following advice from this site.
Now I can't connect wirelessly to the internet. My laptop sees my home network. But it won't connect. I start up Firefox and get Server Not Found. Prior to my earlier problems everything worked great. Not sure what to do.
Suggestions?....

Check your IP settings in Network preferences and make sure you are getting a valid IP address (not 169.x.x.x). Try renewing your DHCP lease there.

I'm not getting an IP address at all. I tried renewing my DHCP lease but nothing comes up. It's just a blank spot.
When I open system preferences, under the AirPort tab, AirPort ID reads: 00:11:24:a0:6b:45
Under the TCP/IP tab I have Using DHCP selected for Configure IPv4
IP Address is blank.
I opened Network Utility to try and ping the router but I get no response from host. (and that's if I'm doing it correctly)
Not sure what to do next.

It sounds like you're not properly connecting to your WIFI router. Verify your Airport settings - particularly the password.

Going back to your previous problem in the other thread, it's possible your filesystem was hosed by the botched update.
I'd consider an archive-install to fix your network issues plus anything else that might be indirectly causing it or waiting to cause other problems.

Disable your Firewall and see if you get a valid IP address now (renew your DHCP lease).
I found Leopard's firewall to be the source of some problems, in case of my father's old Mac mini, it couldn't get any IP addresses on a regular basis. His new Mac mini works just fine. Oh, and moving to networking.

Okay, not sure how I finally established an IP address, but one appears now. It reads
IP Address: 169.254.50.188
I've renewed the DHCP but still no connection.
I believe I've already completed an archive-install. I think it was a selection when I had to reboot using the install discs.
Another suggestion was to disable the firewall. How do I do that?

Change the firewall settings in security preferences. But that has nothing to do with not getting even a connection. A 169.x.x.x is an invalid IP address. Your router is not provided a valid address to your machine. Make sure DHCP is enabled on the router and that you have a good connection (wireless menu in the menu bar at the top of the screen).

no luck. I'm going to wait until my husband is done working online and then reset the router to see if that helps any.
My laptop sees the router and my signal is great. Just can't seem to get a valid IP. I'm at a loss on what to do.

I reset my router and it didn't help. The IP Address is now blank and renewing does nothing. Turning the AirPort Off and then On again also does nothing.

I'm having the same issue.
My Fiance's laptop connects to the network (reluctantly), and then cant connect to the internet. However, if I connect to the same router with an ethernet cable - I can get the internet....
I've tried all the above suggestions, though I seem to have an IP address.
Hmm, OK, my MBP has the ip 192.168.0.2 (the router is 192.168.0.1)
The problematic MB has an IP of 169.254.113.72 and the router IP is blank...?
