I currently have my cable modem directly connected to an old Powerbook that then shares it through Airport. I want to invest in a true wireless setup. If I was interested in these 4 things, what setup would you recommend?
1) wireless "n" speeds
2) a large (1TB) external drive for use with Time Machine and as additional storage space for our Macbooks.
3) the ability to wirelessly play music through my stereo setup.
4) the ability to print wirelessly
I was set on Time Capsule, but I'd really like the wireless music option. I'm currently direct connecting to my stereo and TV.

When you say your PB "shares it," please specify what devices are connecting wirelessly through your PB-created wireless network.
Also, where are your speakers (close to another computer?) and specifically what audio do you plan on streaming to them wirelessly (just iTunes?)?
In any event, I think your best setup is simple:
Time Capsule as your main router and a new Airport Express for your speakers (wherever they may be). Each of these devices are "n" capable and will create a fully "n" network for you. You can connect your USB printer to either of these devices.
There is some software to which I will point you, as it may be helpful in taking full advantage of whatever it is you are trying to accomplish. Airfoil and TuneConnect.

There are currently two Macbooks connecting to the PB-created wireless network. They can connect at "n" speeds, but the PB isn't broadcasting as such.
The stereo speakers are close enough that I could run a long wire to them. I also have the option of moving my laptop closer to the stereo and direct connecting that way, as I am currently doing. I'd like to go wireless however, so that both laptops can stream music, as our music collections differ between systems.
Yes, most likely just iTunes.
Thanks for the suggestion as well as the software recommendations.

Based on these details, I think the setup I recommended is your best bet. It will be pricey, but if you get it I think you will be very pleased.
I essentially hav ethe same setup, with the addition of a few more base stations, and love it.
