I'm torn...I love everything I've purchased from Apple but, I keep hearing bad things about the Airport Extreme Base Station. My Current Netgear 54g router has bit the dust and I'm looking for a replacement. I love the way Apple products just seem to work. However, the $179.00 price tag is steep for a router. I have no problem spending the money if the router works great. Upon reading the reviews I keep hearing the AP Extreme seems to drop wireless signal every so often. I also read it needs to be rebooted more then most routers. I usually look for the positive but all the negatives seem to be repeating the same problems.

Should I go for the AP Extreme or drop the bucks on a different router? If I don't go for the AP Extreme which router should I go with.

Macbook
Wired PC
2 tivos
Apple TV
Wired Network printer
iPhone
Visiting laptops

Since you have a wired network printer, I think there are better options for you than the Airport Extreme.

Since you have some gigabit and/or 802.11n devices, you may find some value in a router that supports both, like this one for $92.

If you're happy with 10/100 ethernet and 802.11g, you still can't beat the WRT54G for $45.

I find that the two advantages to sticking with the Apple routers are:

a) Ease of setup through Airport Utility (which, in reality, is subjective)

2) The ability to link the router, no matter when it was purchased, to your computer's AppleCare warranty

If these aren't important to you, I'd recommend saving a few bucks and buying a non-white router.

I have an extreme, for about 3 months now. It did seem to lock up once about 2 months ago but a restart took care of it and no problems since. No drops in connection.
