What would cause my wireless connection to successfully open to safari's home page but when I try to go anywhere else, it never finishes the process? The status bar stops about 1/2 way, but never opens to the site. It's worked fine for the last year. I suspect it's something with my computer because other portables work properly when joined to the network.
I've run Disk warrior, repaired disk permissions & checked for bad preferences. The system itself is running up to speed but the problem persists.
Thanks for your help.
Netgear router
MacBook 2.0 GHz

Could be that Safari is choking on some cache files. Do you have Firefox or Camino? If they work, then go to Safari, up to the menu bar where is says Safari, down to Empty Cache. Try connecting again, more serious medicine is to Reset Safari. Pay attention to the warning messages, but if Safari is really being such a pain, it won't matter, hose it down.

Thanks for the quick response....The problem is with other browsers as well. Could it be bad ram? It almost seems like it's running out of memory. I will check out openDNS. Thanks

I was able to fix the problem by re-installing 10.4.6 from the install disk. It seems that either the netgear router or something in my computer system doesn't agree with 10.4.11. I verified this by doing an system update back to 10.4.11 & the problem returned. Now my question is, what could cause an update to a more advanced version of Tiger cause such a problem?
Anyway, thank you very much for your help.

Well now, that is odd. Theoretically, there is nothing about 10.4.11 that causes what you are describing, not with the Mac, not with the router. Unless the router is old enough to need a firmware update of some kind. Head over to Netgear and look it up, certainly possible.

Another tip for wifi issues is to turn off IPv6 in Network > Airport > Advanced > TCP/IP settings.
