if you want to upgrade the firmware on the router it might be useful to first power it off for a minute, just pull the plug. Then plug it in, let it boot up and get into standard mode. Once it's there try it again. Failing that I'd say give the MFG a call and see if they can help. With a router there's not much else you can do.
If all else fails you can get a paper clip and push and hold in the reset button for 10 seconds and it will overwrite the software there currently with a back up stored in memory on the router's board. It'll restore it to factory defaults.. then try going in and upgrading the firmware.
