Anyone using this? I am heading to a small village in Europe for a few months and need internet access on my laptop. I know you can buy satellite Express Cards, but what does it entail? How do I get started/connected? I live in Canada, but I don't see why I would be confined to signing for such a mobile solution with a Canadian provider. Although, I don't know what providers are even out there.

Where exactly are you going to?
I believe Internet via 3G/HSDPA is both faster and cheaper than satellite solution and most EU countries have surprisingly good 3G coverage, even in remote villages.
You should be able to get a 15 GB plan for around 15€/mo and unlimited transfer for 35€/mo — that's with 7.2 Mbit/s down and 2.0 Mbit/s upstream.

I'd agree that you should do more homework before you commit to any deal. It's quite possible that you'd find the connectivity you need is already there. If not, you should be able to find out what IS there so you don't have to break new ground but instead can make use of other people's experience. And as moep says, the first step is to point out which small village in Europe you're headed to (there are at least five or six of them... ).

Ok, thanks for the comments so far. It does not matter what small village, the point is that there is no internet access so I need another solution. As I stated in my original post, this is what I need: internet access on my laptop.

Since I am not from Germany, it could take a while before I get a solution and I need something right away. Again, I am not looking for a blackberry solution, but an Express Card for my computer so I can connect, whether satellite or cell phone towers. I own an iPhone and a Razr.

I am looking for an answer, like, "this is what you need"...

Right, since you mentioned Germany:

Coverage in Germany
web'n'walk plus (that's 43,95€/mo with a minimum term of 24 months, unlimited traffic)
Xtra web'n'walk with Dayflat (prepaid - 7,95€ per day, no minimum term, unlimited traffic)
Cards/Modems

I tried to find an english version of t-mobile.de but I couldn't find it. If you need something right away when you arrive, your best bet would be to ring up T-Mobile USA and ask them for help. Or any other provider of course.

Ok...

I bought a Vodafone 7.2 mb/s Express Card (unlocked, quad band) from Ebay for $200 with FedEx shipping.

I can use any SIM card in it, and it is super fast. Once I get there, I will get a T-Mobile SIM, or Vodafone SIM, and pay about 8 Euros per day for unlimited internet access (pay as you go data). By buying the card here, I will save a few hundred dollars because they are expensive to buy from the carriers without a monthly plan. Although, I could have signed up and then cancelled, but the cancellation fee might be high. Not bad.
