Adding G3 imac to wireless network

If I add an old G3 iMac to an existing wireless network via an airport card this will bring the whole network down to b speed (as I understand it). Would a better way be to install an Aiport Express in the room and conect the iMac via ethernet to the Express, thus allowing networking at n speeds?
