I'm finally going to get a wireless card for my MacBook Pro.

Don't know whether to go with Verizon or wait for AT&T to announce anything new around iPhone's new release.
I've been hearing AT&T may offer free WIFI in AT&T locations but don't understand why that matters if I get a wireless service with either one of the providers. Wouldn't my Verizon card work easily in airports or coffee shops?

Your advice is appreciated.

These Verizon and AT&T cards work over cellular signals -- completely different from what you'd get in an airport or coffee shop via their wireless (which is 802.11 a/b/g/n). Your Mac - if it has Airport - has built-in support for 802.11 ("wifi").

You'll need a card from Verizon or AT&T if you want data access away from wifi points, i.e., over cellular networks.
