OK, I am running into a problem here with internet connections. I connect a Macbook under Leopard using an Apple USB external modem. The problem is that somewhere there is a "bottleneck" and I cannot achieve a sustained 6 KB/sec speed (which corresponds to around 48 Kbps, normal for that kind of modem). I have instead 2-2.5 KB/sec, which is something about 16-20 Kbps, and quite often less than that.
On the same phone line an older Powerbook under Panther with its internal modem gave me in the past without difficulty about 48 Kbps anytime I was connected.
Anyone has an idea what's wrong here? The modem settings, Leopard, the Macbook ports?
Another point: Activity monitor shows no internet activity while I connect through the Apple modem (and I download some file of course) and I see no other utility to display what the OS thinks the connection speed is. Any ideas?
Thanks.
