Full backups over 802.11 are slow. That's why Apple suggests people hook up their TC through Gigabit for the first backup.
After that incremental backups are usually a lot faster. You can expect something like 3 MB/s. So depending on how much data is transfered in your incrementals, it can take anywhere from seconds to hours.
Also, if you force reboot OS X the next TM backup will take a whole lot longer regardless of TC. Check your system log for entries with "deep transversal required". In general if you want to get an idea what's going on behind the curtains check your system log for the entries from backupd.
