I have a desktop iMac which is connected to a LAN (and through that the internet) via an Ethernet cable.
It has Airport capabilities but these are not utilised to access the internet wirelessly.

What I want to do is use this iMac to give my iPhone Wi-Fi internet access.

I have set up a Computer-to-Computer network on the iMac and have successfully connected to the iMac from the iPhone via Wi-Fi.

However, this does not seem to give me access to the iMac's internet connection from the iPhone... Is this possible? If so, how do I set it up? Or is it impossible to do?

Instead of a computer to computer network, you want Sharing. Open System Preferences, click the Sharing tab, then click Internet Sharing. Share your connection from Ethernet to computers using Airport. Once that's checked, you should be able to turn on Internet Sharing in the left-hand pane. Use Airport Options in the right-hand pane to configure/disable WEP.

Thanks for the reply - that's exactly what I was after.

Just tried it though and have to admit I've been scared off turning it on by the warning about "disrupting the networks settings"... don't want to incur the wrath of the IT department!

Hmm... not sure how that happened... apologies.

Silly server tricks were to blame for the FIVE extra duplicate posts... I fixed it. The dupes, that is. Glenn
