I just bought a MacBook and it has Airport in it. The thing is that at home I don't have a wireless router, although I have internet service. I will by a wireless router for my home, but the description of the product doesn't say if I can use it in my MacBook. I was thinking of getting a Linksys router. Can anyone tell me if this router will work with my Mac. Any suggestions in which router is better ( I could get the Apple router, but honestly, is too expensive for me ). Also, I have never set up a wireless connection, any hints on how this can be done? Thanks in advance to everyone.

Yes, it'll work. Your new MacBook will do wifi, specifically 802.11 a/b/g, in addition to 802.11n (assuming it was new, not for example a used first-gen new to you).

I'll add my 2 cents about Linksys. They have really gone downhill since Cisco bought them some years ago. Cisco changed out the OS and RAM on many of the Linksys products. Some Linksys models now have problems with too many connections -- e.g., if you use BitTorrent application (like Azureus) and have it set to more than 120 or so connections, then it'll bog down and crap out the Linksys router. I've also seen issues with them trying to switch between subnet mask settings, which of course makes your computers lose their LAN IP address while the router settles on a subnet mask and decides to assign new IPs.

I would recommend you look elsewhere for a router, maybe DLINK if the Apple options are too expense. I have an Airport Extreme and am very happy with it (apart from having to reboot the device after any setting change and the finicky Airport Utility).

Thank you for the information. I'll check out the DLINK routers and decide which one I should get. I do use a BitTorrent application so, it'll be better if I get something that doesn't mess with that ( or any application ).

I'd still go with Linksys over any other brand.. the WRT54GL ($55ish) is a legend with good reason. If you want the speed of 802.11n, go with the WRT150N ($80ish).
