Hello All,

First and foremost forgive me in advance for not speaking the correct terminology with regards to what I am asking here. About two months ago I inherited a mixed network infrastructure that consists of a windows domain and a mix of windows and mac os x 10.5.3 (leopard) clients. Due to some rather severe issues that I’ve found within the windows domain, we are being forced to rebuild. The plan I have in place is to establish a two way trust between the existing windows 2003 domain infrastructure (abc.net) and the newly built windows 2008 domain infrastructure (abcd.org), now in the grand realm of things I can migrate with a tool called ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool) windows computer , users, sids, and passwords and bind them all to the new domain without incident…..from what I understand I can also migrate the mac os x 10.5.3 (leopard) computer accounts as well.

However from what I understand migrating the mac os x 10.5.3 (leopard) computer accounts over with them continuing to be bound to abc.net would be a mute point because as I understand it they would continue to be bound to abc.net and will not be cut over (for a lack of better words). With that let me present the question, is there a tool or script that someone here can either provide me with or direct me to that will allow me / us to bind these macs to the new domain (abcd.org) without having to visit each client (which could be a nightmare)

I by definition am a windows guy (always have been, chances are always will be) but in the interest of being fair I work with a very bright apple guy who has stated that we have in place within the existing domain (abc.net) a open directory server “odmaster” and I’ve heard the term “workgroup manager” (are these the same thing?). the thing is I don’t quite understand how they all tie in to one another, I’m pretty certain that I will get there…but for the purpose of this post….I can’t speak to their functionality.

The apple guy that I work with has stated that there aren’t any scripts or tools to perform these functions, which truth be told if so….I have a hard time understanding. I did some google searching and found this tool “bind-computer-to-active-directory” http://automatoractions.com/files/bi...ectory1.0.html that looks like it works with a tool called “automater” (if so is automater free?) but again due to my limited exposure to macs it looks like it works on a per client basis…which if so won’t really work for us as well….unless its functions can be implemented from a central location.

To summarize I could really use someone’s help here in gaining access to a script or tool that will allow for the un-binding from the existing abc.net domain (if required, which I’ve been told needs to happen) and re-binding to the newly implemented domain (abcd.org) preferably from a central location with automated functionality or limited actions on behalf of the helpdesk.

Thank you,

Shannon
