Hi,

I have a problem with extending wireless network with Airport express. The Airport extreme is connected to a cable modem. Only with the Extreme, I usually get 20MPS on my MBP (enabled to 802.11n). However, If I extend the network with Airport Express (the most recent model), instantly the speed drops to 5MPS. Both are set up for n/g.
Could do explain what is happening here ?

Thanks a lot.

Where does this speed decrease happen? To clients connected to the Extreme or to those connected to the Express? Connected to the Express you can only expect half of the bandwidth a client on the Extreme was getting since bandwidth with WDS scales like 1/2^n where n is the number of WDS remotes/relays between your client and the WDS base.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.
How can I find which station my MBP choose ? I have one WDS(express) and one iMac and two laptops.
How can I avoid the bandwidth issue ? I thought the bandwidth issue arise if traffic from multiple clients comes simultaneously.

Thanks.

The AP Utility will let you see which clients are connected to which base station.

The bandwidth issue has to do with the way WDS works. It's the maximum available to a specific client in the WDS cascade. And obviously it's an upper limit.
