Hi,

recently bought a mac mini for my movie room ( converted shed halfway down the garden ). Problem is it cannot find my Airport Extreme base station, which is in the same place although it can find my wireless sky router but only intermittently as it is some distance away.
When I bring the mac mini into the house it easily finds the airport extreme. I am wondering whether it could be a probem with the cold temparature? I think this is unlikely as I can take my macbook down there and that also finds the Airport extreme.

Any ideas gratefully accepted

Welcome to the forums!

The shed may be shielding the connection. Increase the wireless strength in the Wireless settings for the base station. How far away from the house are we talking?

Steve,

not sure I understand you as the Airport Extreme is in the shed with the mac mini!. My Macbook finds the AEBS easily from my house which is about 25 metres away.

I don't understand. You're now saying that the base station is in the shed, not in the house (how do you connect to the Internet?). When the Mac Mini is in the shed with the base station, you have no signal? But when you bring the Mini into the house, away from the base station, you do have signal? That makes no sense. Temperature does not affect wireless signals. Maybe I'm just not understanding the setup and exactly when you are having the problem.

That sounds like you have two devices hosting different wifi networks at the same time. Is that really what you want?

Sorry I should clafify my set up.

House:

I have a sky router/modem downstairs and an Airport Express upstairs ( with a printer connected ) and connect wirelessly from my macbook.

Shed:

I have the Airport Extreme ( connected wirelessly to sky router ) and a mac mini.

When I use the airport utility on my macbook to scan for airport devices I found both the extreme and the express. This happens when I try the scan from the house and the shed.

When I use the airport utility on my mac mini ( moved into the house to test ) to scan for airport devices I found both the extreme and the express , but when I try it in the shed I cannot find either.

Any ideas?

ta

Paul
