Im sharing some files between my MacBook and my iMac using Ethernet but I can only transfer files at 100Mbit? Since both macs have Gigabit Ethernet, and the cable is verified for gigabit networking I should be able to transfer at 1000Mbit, but how do I do this?

If I go to Sys pref -> Network -> Ethernet -> Advanced -> Ethernet. Here configure is at automatic.

ps. I have tried a different cables also verified for gigabit networking

Does the switch between them support gigabit or are they directly connected?

Are you using CAT-5e / CAT-6 cables? Old cables might prevent you from having a Gigabit connection.
