I just switched to att for internet, phone, tv. They came in and installed a 2wire 3800HGV as our DSL modem and router (wireless G). The problem is i dont want that to act as my router. I have an airport extreme that supports wireless n. Does anyone know how to set the 3800HGV as only a modem and then hook up the AE as the router? I have tried to turn off the wireless and plug the AE into one of the ethernet ports but that didnt work. I just got Double NAT errors. I have done alot of google searchs and the only thing i have found is that it can be done but it is a pain to do. I have not found steps or intructions anywhere.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thank you.

I would turn off the AE NAT, use it as the wireless bridge and use 2WIRE as the router, if anything. You have to use 2WIRE as the router because your TV service depends on it. I too have U-verse at one of my locations and I'm very happy with it. Why do you want to use the AE at all?

2-Wire doesn't have a manual for the 3800s on their site. The 2700 series seems to be the closest to the 3800, so here's the manual for it. You're looking to set up the gateway as a "bridge," so look at the Advanced settings part of the manual. You'll need to connect by Ethernet cable to the gateway, and then tell your Mac to renew its DHCP address before you can do anything. I'd read through the whole manual first, before doing anything, but I think the bridge setup is not only what you're looking for, but the best way to solve your problem.

Please post on how this goes.

The manual shows a bridge mode that should be enabled. My network preference pane does not that that option:

Do you know of how to get that to show up or is that just not an option with this gateway.

Thanks for all your help.

I don't know if it's not an option or if it's just that the option is hidden. More research is in order. Maybe you could contact 2Wire and ask for a manual on your specific model...

Hey Everyone,

I finally figured out how to get this to work so i just wanted to let you know. I plugged the AE via Ethernet into the 2wire device. I opened up Airport Utility and set up my Airports wireless network and set it into Bridge Mode. I then had to reconnect to the wireless network being broadcast by the 2wire router and went and turned off the wireless option. I rebooted both devices and connected to my AE network. Everything worked and is still working fine.

Thanks for all your help.

I had a 2WIRE device for a business DSL network I helped set up and occasionally manage. I hated the 2wire's settings layout and options so much that I bought a Netgear w/ built-in DSL modem. It's worked out great so far.
